Tripura is the base for any trip to the east states. It’s one of the seven sister’s of India. 1. Amarpura
Amarpura is one of the best places to visit in Tripura and is considered as an ideal picnic spot. People often drive here over weekends to sit and pass their day on the banks of the Amar Sagar lake which is an artificial lake built in the 16th century. The city mostly stands on ancient ruins and also has a temple dedicated to Mangalchand (the eight-headed goddess). Also, if you go there during February, a fair is held to celebrate the month of flowers. There are two other lakes in this place – Dumboor Lake and Chobimura. Water Sports facility is also available in Amarpura. Other than this there are various other fairs and events held in this place to keep people visiting this place engaged all year round.
2. Kailashahar
Kailashahar is another town in the state of Tripura and is located very near to Bangladesh borders which makes it one of the best places to visit in Tripura. The town was the capital of Tripura in ancient times and have roots associated with Unakoti. The main festival of Kailashahar is Durga puja and the city is decorated with fancy lights and Goddess Durga pandals. The town is blessed with beautiful landscapes and lush green gardens. The main tourist attractions here are Lakhi Narayan Bari and Chouddo Devotar Temple. Also, there are several tea estates around the town. Some of them are managed privately and most of them are famous for organic tea that they grow here.
3. Unakoti
Translating to ‘one less than a crore’ in English, Unakoti is one of the most intriguing places to see in Tripura for those who seek something unique. This place is sitting near the Kailasahwar town and is home to hundreds and thousands of massive structures that are rock-cut and spellbinding. This spot is home to numerous scattered ruins of the temples, making Unakoti a unique place with an ancient aura encircling the atmosphere.
4. Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary
For all the animal and plant admirers out there in the world, Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the exciting places to see in Tripura. This wildlife sanctuary is spread over approximately 19 kilometers and is home to some enchanting species of flora and fauna. There is an extensive variety of local and migratory birds that can be found here. The floors of the sanctuary are also covered with coffee and rubber plantations that are a treat for the eyes and soul both.
5. Neermahal Palace
Neermahal Palace is sitting right in the heart of Rudrasagar Lake. This Palace not only gives one a chance to witness a scintillating structure but also beholds the beauty of its surroundings. The name translates to ‘water palace’ in English and justifies the name to the T. When it comes to the seven wonders of this country, Neermahal Palace found itself a spot in the list. Founded by Martin & Burns Co., this Palace is home to a royal Antar Mahal, a guest room, a playing room, a courtyard, and much more!
6. Raima Valley
Known as the Mother of the Tribals of Tripura, this lush green valley, decorated with gardens and plantations has become a preferred tourist spot.
7. Devtamura
Devtamura, locally called chhabimura, is situated on the bank of river Gomoti, 82 km away from Agartala. The carving images date back to 15-16th century. The biggest idol of maa Durga in rock carving is about 20 feet high on 90 degree steep rocky wall. The hill range is covered with thick jungle. The carving images can be seen only by boat journey through the dense forest.
