Even though they are small, blackheads are the most stubborn form of pimples; as much as we tried to poke, squeeze and prod, they always seemed to come back.
Blackheads are small bumps on hair follicles. The dark surface caused by blackheads are an unwanted sight for anyone striving to have a clear complexion. Blackheads are mostly found around the nose and chin area.
Most people assume that blackheads are caused by dirt; however, it is the buildup of sebum that causes your hair follicles to clog. It is tempting to squeeze the sebum out; avoid this at all costs as it could lead to scarring.
Here are some simple home remedies to get rid of blackheads naturally and prevent them from recurring –
1. Honey
Honey has proved to be effective in removing blackheads; at the same time it moisturizes and soothes the skin. Apply raw honey to a clean, dry face and let it sit for 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Honey can be used on the skin daily.
2. Lemon juice
Lemon juice removes dead skin cells and because it is a natural astringent, it also gets rid of blackheads. Before going to bed, use cotton wool to apply fresh lemon juice to clean skin, concentrating on the blackhead area.
You can leave this overnight and rinse it off in the morning with warm water. Repeat this every night for a week. Caution is needed when using lemon juice as it can dry your skin. If you have dry skin, add olive oil to the lemon juice and make sure to use a moisturizer once you have rinsed it off.
3. Egg Whites
This one is super easy and effective. Just mix an egg white with a tablespoon of honey. Apply the mixture to your face and let it completely dry. Wash it off with water and get set to flaunt your glowing, blackhead-free skin. Wondering how it works? Egg white helps in tightening pores, hair follicles that produce sebum, and removing blackheads. Honey deeply nourishes the skin, making it soft and supple.
4. Cinnamon Powder
This remedy can be used to prevent and as well as remove blackheads. Start with mixing a tablespoon each of cinnamon powder and lemon juice. You can also add a pinch of turmeric powder to it. Apply this paste on your face for 10-15 minutes, and rinse it off with normal water. Cinnamon helps to tighten the pores and improve blood circulation. Lemon juice is loaded with antibacterial properties that help to fight acne, blackheads and whiteheads.
5. Green Tea
The benefits of green tea need not be emphasised. When applied on the face, the antioxidants in it help to remove impurities and clear blackheads. All you need to do is mix a tablespoon of dry green leaves with water and make a thick paste. Apply it for about 15-20 minutes on your affected areas and rinse it off with lukewarm water.
6. Turmeric and Coconut Oil
Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Coconut Oil soothes and hydrates skin; a match made in heaven.
This is one of the best home remedies for blackheads out there. Mix one tsp of Turmeric with Coconut Oil to form a smooth paste. Dab the paste on the concerned areas and let it works its magic for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse with Lukewarm water.
Blackheads on the nose are common. While they’re harmless, they can be annoying. Washing your face daily, using oil-free sunscreen, and experimenting with pore strips may help remove them from your nose.
