Mouth ulcers are painful and irritating that occur in the mouth and gums. Most mouth sores are harmless but can cause discomfort making it hard to eat, drink or brush the teeth.
Mouth ulcers appear as sores on the soft tissues of the mouth including lips, cheeks, tongue, floor and roof of the mouth. However, it is not a severe condition, but still, a person suffering from it may experience intense pain and show disinterest towards food.
1. Coconut Oil or Ghee
Coconut oil has natural inflammatory properties. Swish some around in your mouth and then spit it out. Do this several times a day, it helps in reducing swelling and soothes the pain. Similarly, desi gheeis an age-old remedy for mouth ulcers your grandmother may have often told you about. Apply desi ghee on the ulcer, let it stay for few minutes and then spit it out. Rinse your mouth properly in order to avoid any residue left in the mouth.
2. Tulsi Leaves
Tulsi leaves are known to be very therapeutic and have been known for their medicinal properties, . Chew some fresh leaves and drink water to swallow them. They might be a bit bitter but it really works. Similarly, you can even boil some fenugreek leaves and use the water to gargle two-three times in a day. Make sure you use these concoctions regularly to reap maximum benefits.
3. Aloe Vera Juice
Swish some aloe vera juice a couple of times in the day to get relief. This simple home remedy is the easiest way to treat mouth ulcers. Aloe vera also has natural anti-inflammatory properties and drinking aloe vera juice is known to cure even stomach ulcers. It offers relief by healing the stomach lining and reducing acidic secretions.
4. Honey
Honey works due to its antibacterial properties. Honey retains moisture and prevents your mouth from becoming dry. It also hastens the process of new tissue growth. Apply raw homey to the ulcer or you can even mix it with some amla powder and gently rub on the affected area. You can even mix pinch of turmeric with honey, it helps in healing.
5. Saltwater
Saltwater tops the list and used since times immemorial for curing mouth ulcers. Saltwater gargling helps in drying out canker sores. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of saltwater with half a cup of warm water and swirl the mixture in the mouth for a few seconds and repeat this several times in a day for quickly healing ulcers.
6. Garlic
Garlic is a proven natural remedy that is valuable in curing canker cores. The powerful compound allicin in garlic is effective in alleviating the pain and reducing the size of the mouth ulcer. Gently rub a small piece of garlic on the affected region for 3-5 minutes and flush the mouth after 20 minutes.
7. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV)
Apple cider vinegar is a time-tested natural remedy that helps in healing mouth sores. The acidic nature of ACV combats the germs causing canker sores. Take 3 teaspoons of ACV mix with half a cup of water and gargle the solution in the mouth for 30 seconds and rinse well. Repeat this twice daily for a week to get instant relief from mouth ulcers.
