Sunburn is the result of too much to the sun. It can cause blisters and skin burning. Even if you take all the precautions you can, like sunscreen, it might still leave a sunburn. Here are those item that you might have in your home that can help you with sunburn –
1. Ice
Wrap an ice pack or a bag of frozen veggies in a soft towel and apply to the burn. Never place ice directly on skin as it can cause frostbite and more damage.
2. Aloe Vera
The gel from inside this cactus plant eases discomfort, speeds healing, and moisturizes skin. Either split a plant leaf and apply the sap directly to skin, or buy pure aloe vera gel at your local drugstore.
3. Oatmeal
Finely ground oatmeal (sold as colloidal oatmeal in drug stores) works as an anti-inflammatory when mixed with bath water. Make your own by pulverizing a cup of instant or slow-cooking oatmeal in a blender or food processor until it has a smooth, fine consistency. Pour into tepid bath water and soak.
4. Milk
Place a washcloth or cotton gauze soaked in cool milk on the reddened area to create a protein film that eases discomfort and reduces heat.
5. Coconut oil
In a pinch, you can try using coconut oil on your sunburn—but not on a fresh one. Only use cold-pressed, organic coconut oil after any blistering has subsided and your burn has reached the end of its healing process (otherwise you may trap in heat, and you do not want that). Always test a patch of your skin first to ensure you don’t have any unwanted reactions. Avoid using coconut oil on your face if you are acne-prone, as it may clog pores and lead to breakouts.
6. Put Vaseline on your blisters
You might think putting a bandaid over your blisters is a good idea, but just imagine what it’s gonna feel like to pull it off your sunburn later. Instead, cover each individual blister—not the entire burn, please—with Vaseline. It’s basically nature’s bandaid. It’s a really good protective barrier so it will help the skin heal but you don’t have to have any adhesive on it.
7. Cucumbers
Cucumbers have natural antioxidant and analgesic (pain relieving) properties. Chill cucumbers, then mash in a blender to create a paste, and apply to affected sunburned areas including the face. Cucumber also can be soothing for peeling skin following a sunburn.
And while, obviously, the end goal is to avoid getting burnt completely, sometimes, even when we’re totally on it with the SPF50 situation, sunburn still seems to find us.
