To say the last few weeks have been stressful would be an understatement. As the number of cases of coronavirus continues to rise in the world, we’re all entering uncharted territory and asking ourselves all types of questions. What will kids do on their winter break? How to take care of kids and do WFH? We made a list of fun activities that will keep your children busy this winter.
1. Create a scavenger hunt:
Give the kids the first clue, which will lead them to the next clue, and so on. In the end, have some sort of “treasure” or gift for them to find. It will be a lot of fun and will keep them busy.
2. Create an indoor obstacle course:
Put away the breakables and turn your living room, playroom, and/or basement into a huge obstacle that they have to do. Or grab some tennis balls and have your kids toss them into a toy bin while climbing over the couch.
3. Camp out:
Set up a tent or fort in your home and fill it with multiple items for a game of camp. Let your kids get comfortable with pillows and blankets, keep them fed with snacks, turn out the lights, and give them flashlights for making shadow animals. Throw in some stuff to keep them company, some binoculars to keep a watch on the bears, and some animal picture books.
4. Rock painting:
Provide your kids with washable paint, paintbrushes, and rocks, and let the artistry begin. Items can also be provided for kids to glue onto their rocks once they’re dry, such as googly eyes, feathers, or pom poms. Older kids can paint messages of hope and leave them in their neighborhood for others to read.
5. Rubbings art: Lay out several thin items such as leaves, flat pieces of Lego, coins, or buttons (for kids who know not to put these in their mouths!), a stack of thin white paper, and crayons. Show your children the art of putting a piece of paper over an item and rubbing it with the side of a crayon until the item appears. The simple act of taking the paper off the sides of a pile of crayons alone will keep kids busy for a while.
