It can be difficult to open stubborn jars. Whether it’s inside an airtight, vacuum-sealed jar or a super-secure plastic clamshell container, everything you need to open those tough-to-open containers can already be found right in your own kitchen.
1. Turn the jar upside down and tap it on the counter until the safety button in the lid pops.
2. While holding the jar at an angle pointing downward, hit the bottom of the jar a few times with the palm of the other hand.
3. Wide rubber band
Next time you bring a bunch of celery from the grocery store do not throw away that wide rubber band.
When you need to open a tight jar lid, slip a rubber band around it and proceed with unscrewing the lid.
4. Kitchen towel
Firmly hold the lid with a kitchen towel while opening a jar.
5. Paper towel
Cover the lid with a paper towel and try to unscrew it in the usual manner.
6. Use heat
1) Hot water
Hold the jar at an angle upside down and run a stream of hot water to expand the metal lid.
2. Hair dryer
Apply heat around metal lid.
Unscrew the lid.
7. A spoon
Push the spoon tip between a jar and a lid. While holding the jar with one hand, try to lift the wedged spoon up.
Go around the jar and do this in few places.
This should loosen the sides of the lid and break the seal.
