Hair thinning can turn out to be quite daunting and painful; thanks to the increasing level of pollution, stress and poor quality of water. Not only this, thinning of hair can happen due to various other factors like lifestyle, nutritional deficiencies, allergies, hormonal imbalances, poor hair care, and genetics.
1. Fenugreek seeds with curd
Fenugreek is a versatile seed. Not only does it add heat and flavour to your dishes, but it also provides nourishment to your scalp. You can read about its benefits here and if your concern is hair fall specifically, try the following home remedy.
Soak fenugreek seeds overnight and drain the water (don’t throw away this water, add it to your plants). Grind the seeds into a paste and mix it with curd. Massage your scalp with this hair mask, leave it on for 15 minutes and wash away with a chemical-free shampoo.
2. Organic Henna Powder
Several generations have tried and tested this solution to hair fall. Not only will henna control hair loss, but will also dye your hair a gorgeous brown-red (if you want to avoid dyeing your hair, then oil your hair before you apply henna). Make a paste of organic henna powder and apply it from the roots of your hair to your tips. Ensure the paste covers your hair and scalp completely. Put on a shower cap, wait for 2 hours and proceed with your regular shampoo routine.
3. Organic coconut oil with curry leaves
Let’s start with one remedy that has worked wonders for me. Heat about 200 ml of organic coconut oil and add 4-5 bunches (yes, stalks too!) of curry leaves to it. Let the curry leaves cook for a while. When the oil changes colour, switch off the flame, allow it to cool, store in a glass jar and use twice a week.
4. Yogurt
Yogurt is a rich source of probiotics, which are known to lead to an acidic pH. An acidic pH can alter your hair cuticles, giving you a shinier mane and preventing damage that may trigger hair breakage and loss. Have a bowl of probiotic yogurt. You can consume this once daily for best results.
5. Egg Yolk Mask
The water-soluble peptides in egg yolk possess hair growth stimulating properties that may be useful to treat hair loss. Whisk the egg yolk. Apply it to your scalp and leave it on for at least 30 minutes. Rinse it off using a fragrant shampoo and follow up with a conditioner.
6. Onion juice
You’ve probably heard about this natural remedy, but cannot bring yourself to try it because, well, onions smell and you don’t want people running away from you! But did you know the antibacterial properties of onions make them an excellent ingredient to fight scalp infections and improve blood circulation thereby preventing hair loss? If you can get through the smell, onion juice is your answer to stopping hair fall. Grind one onion and extract the juice, apply it to your scalp using a cotton ball. Let it stay for 20-30 minutes before washing with lukewarm water and shampoo. Use once a week for best results.
7. Aloe vera
Is there any problem that aloe vera can’t solve? We think not! Apart from healing several skin conditions, aloe vera is also effective in calming and cleaning the scalp. This allows the hair follicles to grow healthier, softer and shinier. If you haven’t used aloe vera to stop hair fall, do so right away by massaging the gel of fresh aloe vera on the scalp. Leave on for about 20-30 minutes before washing with water. With regular use, you will notice that your hair fall has reduced considerably.
