Whether it’s about experimenting or to cover the greys, we all have different reasons for colouring our hair. You may get your hair coloured at a salon – but why should you let your hair face the torture of harmful chemicals when you can try some homemade hair dyes and achieve almost similar results? If you wish to know more, read on to find out some interesting and easy ways of making hair dyes at home.

Beetroot
Carrier Oil
How to Make –
Here’s how you can make beetroot dye:

2. Coffee Dye
Looking for brown hair dye? Try a DIY coffee hair dye. This is a great homemade hair dye to cover grey hair.
You Will Need –
1 tablespoon coffee
1 cup water
How to Make –
Here are some steps that you should follow:
Mix coffee in water and let it boil until it is reduced to one-third of the original amount.
Shampoo your hair as usual and give one last rinse with the decoction
3. Tomato Dye
For red hair, nothing beats tomato juice. Try this DIY tomato dye at home to get that beautiful red hair naturally.
You Will Need –
Tomato Juice
How to Make –
Massage a generous amount into hair, lightly squeeze out any excess, then pile on top of head. Cover with a plastic bag or shower cap, and leave on for at least 30 minutes.
4. Tea
Like coffee, black tea can help you go darker, and can also help cover gray hairs. If you have lighter hair, though, there are other types of tea you can use. Chamomile, for example, is recommended for blondes, while rooibos may work for redheads.
Do keep in mind that tea works best with your natural color. You won’t be able to turn blonde hair to brunette or black hair. But black tea can darken blonde hair and chamomile can lighten it—especially if you sit in the sun while you have it in.
The longer you leave the tea on the hair, the more noticeable the color will be. You can also try repeated applications.
You Will Need –
Tea leaves
How to Make –
Leave on hair for at least an hour—more if you want more color. Some even put on a cap and wear the tea overnight, then rinse the following morning. Check your color to determine what intensity you need.
5. Sage
If you have dark brown or black hair and want to darken it up a bit, sage is a good option. It can deepen shades of brunette hair, and it can also help cover up gray hairs.
You Will Need –
Dried Sage
How to Make –
Steep between 1/2 and 1 cup of dried sage in a quart of boiling water for at least 30 minutes. (The longer you let it steep, the darker the tint could be.)
Let the water cool and strain out the sage.
After you wash and towel-dry your hair, pour the sage water over your hair for as long as possible.
Let the tint develop for at least 15 minutes before washing it out
Natural hair dyes are a better deal for your hair health because they are sans any harmful chemicals which can cause damage to your hair and scalp. The above-mentioned recipes are not only safe, but they also protect your hair. However, you can also procure natural hair dyes from the market – make sure to check the label for chemicals like parabens, sulphates and ammonia, which can cause harm to your hair.
