Exercise improves blood circulation in the stomach, meaning less menstrual pain. It also boosts your overall mood so you can better cope with whatever your cycle throws at you. Here are few exercise you can do in periods-
1. Walking
Walking is perfect if you don’t feel like doing anything too hard core. Lace up your favourite sneakers and hit the road for a stroll or a brisk walk around your estate. Even though it’s not an intense workout, you can still clock steps and torch calories by walking.
2. Pilates
Pilates moves target specific muscle groups, so you can tailor your workout to suit your need. For example, if you’re suffering from lower back pain during your period, try roll-downs to stretch your spine and back.
3. Strength training
If you are up to it, try some low-volume exercises. You should decrease the weight you might normally use. No really heavy-duty lifting at this time in your cycle.
4. Gentle stretch and balancing
Yoga is great for relaxation of the muscles and decreasing cramps and pain. Do only upright positions though. Pilates is good for stretching muscles and reducing cramps and the menstrual pain that comes with them. Tai Chi is good for reducing tension and stress.
5. Dance
Moving to the music goes a long way toward feeling better overall. Taking a Zumba class or even turning on the music in your own home and dancing can liven up a dreary day. Big free flowing movements increase flexibility of your joints and can fight off that period stiffness. Dancing does double duty by lifting your mood and helping burn calories—an hour of Zumba can burn up to 600 of them.
6. Deep Breathing
Taking deep breaths, whether on their own, during meditation, or in combination with a practice such as Pilates or yoga may help ease menstrual cramp pain. Breathing deeply relaxes your whole body, including the muscles in the uterus, which contract with the menses to expel blood. Since this contraction is also behind painful cramping, deep breathing can help alleviate these cramps.
Many women feel that exercise is the last thing that they would want to do while they have their periods and others have heard various myths about exercise in general. But exercise is exactly what you should be doing. Exercise on your period has been proven to alleviate many symptoms associated with your cycle.
