Working from home, can be very fulfilling, but can also be stressful and detrimental to health as well. Taking time off for yourself will help you get your act together. All work and no play won’t make you rich or successful overnight, in a week, or in a month. Check out these eight ways to pamper yourself with self-love and happiness.
1. Meditate
Learn to practice daily affirmations of self-love. Our thoughts play a strong role in our behaviors and emotions. Through meditation, you can recite positive mantras that encourage self-compassion and focus on loving yourself. Mindfulness means having an open attitude without judging, and always aim to keep your focus in a positive light.
2. Schedule “ME” time
There is always someone who needs you – your spouse, kids, boss, friends, siblings, parents, etc. But do you ever think about someone else who also needs you? You! Learn to love yourself before you can love others. Take time to nurture your well-being and do things that make you happy.
3. Spa day
First things first….start by setting the mood! Put on some calming music and create the perfect spa scent while you get things ready. Lavender essential oil is great for relaxing, but nothing smells more like a spa than eucalyptus! I like to use my diffuser, but candles create such nice lighting, too. If you go with a candle, choose one that utilizes essential oils for its scent, like this one. Or you can make your own candle.
Now that you have the smells and sounds of the spa, put on your slippers, get out your fluffiest towels, and choose a treatment (or two, or three, or four…) from the list below. Enjoy!
a) Make Your Own Spa Water
Sipping on “spa water” is an easy way to enjoy spa amenities at home. I put some strawberries and mint in my infuser pitcher, but you can also put the fruit straight into a water bottle or mason jar. Cucumbers and citrus are refreshing, but I love berries!
b) Steam Treatment
To make your own Tea Tree Toner Tabs, place them in a bowl of hot water, use a towel to trap the steam, and allow the steam to clean out your pores. This treatment is great for acne-prone skin and leaves your face feeling clean and refreshed!
c) Face Mask
Applying a face mask is one of my favorite at-home spa treatments. This Yogurt & Honey Face Mask leaves my skin soft, moisturized, and it makes applying makeup easier because it plumps the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles!
d) Anti-Aging Hand Mask
Along with the skin on your face, the skin on the backs of your hands can also reveal significant signs of aging. All-natural mixture that now you can make at home in minutes will have your hands feeling softer and looking more youthful in no time.
A foot soak is the perfect treatment if you don’t have much time to spare. You can even set up a foot bath at your desk or at a table while you work on something else!
If you have dry, cracked heels, then try foot soak with Listerine and vinegar.
After a nice soak, massage this peppermint cream into your feet – you’ll love it!
4. Use the bathtub or hot tub
The warm water will definitely soothe tired and aching muscles. Other benefits for using a bathtub or hot tub are improved sleep, lower blood pressure and blood sugar, reduces anxiety, and decreased migraines and tension headaches.
Add epsom salt in your bathtub for a more relaxing and therapeutic effect.
5. Eat a good meal
There is definitely something relaxing about eating a good meal inside the comforts of your own home. First off, you are not rushed to finish your meal or interrupted by other people in the room. If you do not have the time to cook a good meal on your own, you can still do take-out and eat it while relaxing at home.
6. Use soft, comfortable pillows and blankets
What a good and relaxing feeling to pop down on the couch or on the bed with a soft, fluffy pillow and blanket that feels like velvet on your skin. While lying down, put cucumber slices on top of your eyes and let the coolness help relax you and rid the dark circles under your eyes.
7. Unplug from tech
It’s hard to imagine surviving a busy work week without relying on various gadgets that help you keep track of your mounting obligations. The weekend, however, is a perfect time to have a digital detox. Too much screen time will only lead to headaches, eye strain, neck pain, insomnia. Turn off all the gadgets, don’t check your emails, and stay away from social media.
8. Declutter your space
Cleaning up might sound like the last thing you’d want to do your day off, but trying to pamper yourself at home while surrounded by clutter is an even worse idea. Decluttering won’t just make your space look better but it will also help you get rid of any negative energy and give you a feeling of calmness.
Sometimes the most mind blowing treatment you can give yourself is simply plopping down on the couch and doing nothing but listening to silence. Pure and utter silence. We tend to get caught up in the idea that we need to partake in an extravagant gesture to unwind or to treat ourselves. Reality is, the little things tend to have the biggest most beneficial effects. So, pour yourself a glass of wine, turn on your favorite song and dance around your place. Call a friend to talk on the phone. Look in the mirror and say, I love you to the reflection that is staring back. Enjoy a piece of chocolate and taste each and every single bite. Open a new book and get lost in the pages.
