In the last two weeks, the social media has been filled with challenges. There is the new “draw something” challenge, where users draw an object using the creative tools on Instagram Stories, then tag five friends to do it, too. There is “see a dog, share a dog,” which encourages people to post photos of their pets.
There are physical challenges, such as the push-ups challenge, where a person posts a video of them doing 10 push-ups to Instagram Stories then tags 10 friends to do the same. Or the planking challenge, where users hold a plank for 15 seconds. There’s the couch challenge for those who consider push-ups to be too easy. (You’re supposed to lift up your entire couch.)
Historically, internet challenges have taken hold when people have some time on their hands to get creative — usually during the summer. Planking, icing, and the Ice Bucket Challenge all took hold in summer months, their growth spurred by out-of-school teenagers looking for something to do. There are some bizzare challenges out there that people do that are life threating like the Coronavirus challenge, Johny Johny challenge, visit a haunted house challenge. People have been either petrified after going there or they have been admitted to the hospital.
Here is the list of 5 challenges that you can do in this time of quarantine –
1. Gesture challenge –
The Gesture Challenge on Instagram is a fun little game where you use your own hands to copy a set of hand emojis that are shown on your screen. It seems easy enough, except you have to imitate the gestures quickly and on-beat to a song. And if you don’t get it right the first time, you’ll have to try again with a brand new set of randomised hand gestures.
You can find the emoji hand AR effect on the Instagram account @i.m.noel. Once you’re there, click on the smiley face next to the grid icon in the middle of the screen, select the Gesture Challenge effect, and watch the filter’s creator totally nail the challenge. If you want to give it a go after seeing how it’s done, just tap the “Try It” button at the bottom of the screen.
2. Stay at home challenge –
Location apps traditionally encourage users to see the world around them, but during a pandemic these technologies are motivating people to stay home.
Zenly, a Snapchat-owned app, has turned self-isolating into a game with its ‘Stay At Home Challenge’ that shows users which of their friends have spent the most inside over the course of three days.
The app detects when the user is home and allows them to share how long they have been there, which is displayed on a leaderboard for others to see, according to The Verge.
There is also a map that displays how many cases are in your state or country, along with coronavirus information and tips for staying healthy during the outbreak that is sweeping across the globe. This is the huge help of people who are getting bored with staying at home and want to take this initiative of not spreading Coronavirus.
3. Quarantine dance off challenge –
People around the globe are shaking off the pandemic blues by dancing their way through quarantine and social distancing.
Jessica Boyd, a 40-year-old yoga instructor from Portland, Oregon created the hashtag #quarantinedanceoff and posted a lively video of herself making shapes with her friend and her son.
4. Couch challenge –
People have been doing exercises daily with the great amount of time they have on their hands now. Some people took it a step further by lifting a whole couch with their hands and challenging others to do it.
5. See a dog, share a dog –
People with pets have been posting their dogs photos and tagging their friends and relatives to do the same. These adorable pictures of their dogs will surely melt the hearts of non – pet person.
Some people have been doing some obsence challenges from tik tok, that are landing them in hospital like the Coronavirus challenge.
Social media influencer Larz informed his followers that he has been hospitalised and reportedly got the coronavirus disease a few days after he posted a video of him licking the toilet seat of a public loo, following Louise’s call to take part in the Coronavirus challenge.
This Coronavirus challenge on TikTok started after content creator Ava Louise did a video to prove that it was perfectly alright to lick the toilet seat inside an airplane bathroom to become ‘viral’ on TikTok.
It’s not yet clear if this internet challenge has spread beyond a handful of wannabe internet influencers. But this much should go without saying: Don’t lick a toilet. Don’t take the Coronavirus Challenge. Health experts believe the coronavirus can live on surfaces — such as toilet bowls and door handles — for hours or even days.
See a dog, share a dog and dance off challenges are great to get you out of your blues and encourage others to do the same.
